A Beautiful Classic Romance

This is a beautifully wrought movie with incredible cinematography and acting. It transports you to another era, allows you to forget yourself for a while, and makes you believe in true romance again. It is poignantly done bringing to light the complexity and realities of life in the sixties. I highly recommend.

Spoilers - Affairs and false love are not romantic - especially when in a child is involved

This movie is about a woman who is engaged and gets pregnant by an affair she has. Where her husband chooses to marry her anyway, even though he knows her heart is elsewhere. As she does the same. Fast forward five years the man she had an affair with comes back where she has yet another affair. Shortly after not only does he find out he's the father of her child but she leaves her husband. Hurting. The movie doesn't even bother show casing that her young 5 year old daughter is going to be ripped from the only man she's known as Dad, to be suddenly thrown into the arms of another. It doesn't show this process at all. Instead just instantly shows her liking this new man figure.

This isn't romantic or cute. Why did either one of these people get married? And why didn't the other man listen and stop trying when she originally said "this can't happen again" - she made that clear. Why did he continue to advance her? Neither one of these characters have any respect for themselves or the other.

Why bother getting married? It's ridiculous. - The husband should have left her and seen those red flags immediately.

"I could have had any woman but I chose you" ...
